History of Port of Trabzon
Port of Trabzon, initially built
by Pontus at the side of Moloz, however, due to the locals desire,
during BC 117-119, rebuilt at the side of existing Customs office,
by carving out rocks. During Ottoman period, a port and berth construction
initiated by Regional Commander Hasan Pasha at the side of old
berth and construction completed at 1903 by Governer Mazhar Pasha.
During this period Port of Trabzon was one of the most important
5 ports of Ottoman Empire.
Construction of the new port initiated
at 1946 and became operational after completion of construction
at 1954. Due to the growth of shipping traffic, expansion and modernization
became necessary in 1980. The port reached existing formation after
the completion of modernization efforts. Port of Trabzon was under
the possession of state until november 22, 2003, then through privatization
transferred to private sector.
